Washington Square Mall Study

I grew up on the east side of Indianapolis and watched the Washington Square Mall go from a vibrant space to a vacant and crime-ridden shell of a building. The mall site offers prime redevelopment potential due to its spacious layout, existing infrastructure, and central location within a well-populated area. Despite the decline in traditional retail, the area remains a community focal point, with high visibility and accessibility from major roads and public transportation routes. Redevelopment could transform the space into a mixed-use hub, incorporating residential units, offices, local businesses, and community spaces to cater to diverse local needs. Revitalizing the mall could stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and breathe new life into the east side, serving as a catalyst for further development and community engagement in the area.
